The UK is switching to digital-only TV and this process is called digital switchover. And it’s the biggest change in broadcasting since colour television was introduced in 1967. This process will be happening in your area some time between 2008 and 2012. It will happen ITV region by ITV region, depending on where you live:

After switchover FREEVIEW will be the main digital terrestrial system via which you will be able to view TV without the need of a dish.
Freeview is available now, you can upgrade an old analogue TV with buying a digital box or PVR that plugs into your TV.
